12 days until Cover Reveal

I've been watching the countdown, and it blows me away that there are only 12 more days until the cover reveal. I'll be sending out an email to everyone who has signed up, and if you haven't there's still time. Please sign up before June 27th so I can send you all the materials you'll need. Remember if you can't participate on the 27th, any day after that also works. This is very exciting because I think this might be our biggest cover reveal yet. Definitely counting on you guys to make this one amazing -as you always do.

Since I decided on the cover reveal date so much has happened. I have the official files for the book cover, and it's beautiful. A huge shout out to Paper & Sage Design for the amazing work done on the cover. They'll also be including the cover on their website a few days after the big reveal, and I will share the link once it's up. I'm excited for June 27th to see the cover being spread around on social media. Only 12 more days!

Also, I've received the proof for Bloodline Inheritance. I am currently reading through it carefully, as there are a few things I've wanted to add in at the last minute. There was also a minor interior issue that I fixed. This is why proofs help me out so much; you can really see any little errors on paperback. I'll be posting what the book looks like on cover reveal day, which should be very close to how it will look when the book releases.

The cover reveal has definitely kept me busy, and I already most of my updated graphics ready to be uploaded on my blog and so forth. In the meantime the book is up on Goodreads if you want to add it to your reading list.

I realize this was a short update, but keep an eye on that countdown. The big day is almost here, and I'll definitely have a lot to share with you then. Bloodline Inheritance on Goodreads

June 27th, cover reveal day, is slowly creeping up on me. It's only 19 days away actually, and I've been working hard to find more blogs and people to participate in this event. When it comes to cover reveals, Goodreads is one of the first places I upload the official cover. Then Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and every other social media site.

Bloodline Inheritance is now up on Goodreads along with its official synopsis. I've updated it since I last shared it, and I'll also have it updated on my Books page here on the blog. This means you can now add the book to your "want to read" list -remember it's going to be a summer book. You can also recommend it to friends, so they can check out the book and the series as a whole.

Little by little this book is finally come to life. I know I have a lot of work ahead of me. The cover reveal is only the beginning, and then I have to plan the release party and so forth. I'm waiting on the official files to be sent over to me so I can order my proof and get that ready. It's definitely a lot of work, but I'm excited because it means we're that much closer to release day. Release day is happening at the end of July unless a meteor strikes my house... or I run into a huge error that can't be easily fixed.

I always tell people who ask about it that you can sign up even if you might only share on Twitter and Facebook. I have a lot planned for that day, and I'm already setting up the emails and the document with everything you'll need for reveal day. Bloodline Inheritance: Cover Reveal Sign Up

As promised it's time for the cover reveal sign up. I am very excited about this weekend, especially since the cover for Bloodline Inheritance will finally come to life. I also can't wait to share it, and if you participate in the cover reveal you will see it before anyone else!

The official cover reveal will be on Saturday, June 27th. I chose this because I wanted to make sure we had more than enough time to allow people to sign up. The last cover reveal for Thicker Than Blood went amazingly well, and I would love if this one was even bigger. The sign up form is now live for you to fill in with the necessary details. I will need your email address as I will be sending you the materials days in advance to the reveal date. As always I encourage you to share it on as many websites as possible. While this is the end of the Magicians series, we want new readers to be able to start the journey as well.

As we've talked about previously there has been a pattern with the cover designs. (At first not at all intentional!) Without giving away too much, I can reveal that this final cover completes the pattern. I will have the cover most likely by tomorrow morning. From the preview I've seen of it I'm very excited -and hope you are too! As always I'll be setting up a countdown for the cover reveal, as well as one for release day. I will share the release date with cover reveal participants, and we will also be sharing that on June 27th. However, this does mean for certain that Bloodline Inheritance will not release until July. Looks like it will be a summer book -just in time too!

Update: As of June 5th I have received the proof of the book cover. I've approved it, and I will receive the official files of the cover shortly. This month... Cover reveal month!

My fiancé casually reminded me this morning that we are officially in June. Wait... where did spring go? How did the last few months fly by? Well, June has definitely been a busy month for me in the past two years. As Timehop so kindly reminded me, July seems to be a popular release time for my books. Both Shadows and Embers and Thicker Than Blood released in July -and they're coming up on their anniversaries! With that in mind I've been working like a mad lady to ensure Bloodline Inheritance releases hopefully before TTB did last year. Otherwise I will feel bad because that will mean it took me an entire year to release this final book in the series. (Have no fear, the wait is worth it!)

There's more to this list than mentioned.

So to start off this crazy month right, this week I will be purchasing my book cover. I know I've been teasing about this book cover for what seems like forever. At last I've found a cover I am in love with -just ask people I've spoken to in the past fews days. It's been the constant thought in my mind, and I am so happy that this week the cover will be mine. It will finally be here, and I can plan out the cover reveal. 

Especially with this being the last book in the series there are a lot of big plans in the making. Besides the cover reveal upcoming (this month) there will be a countdown and more happening while I approve the paperback and ebook formats. Let's hope it all goes smoothly and there are no delays. My ideal goal is for the cover reveal to be this month, and upon the reveal day I (along with your help) can announce the release date for the book. The date would only change if there was any format issue that I run into -especially in regards to the ebook (since that one is always tricky).

How do I sign up for the cover reveal?

I love when people want to participate and help the series out. Cover reveals are only the beginning, but together we can spread the word about Bloodline Inheritance and the series as a whole. Once I have the book cover (this week!) I will set up a form and post it up on the blog. If you already participated in the past with TTB and answered "yes" for future reveals, I already have your contact info. If not, I will post it up ASAP so you can fill it out with your preferences. Again this might take a few days for me to set up, and I do want to wait and let responses come in. Definitely keep checking in on Twitter, as I will announce when I receive the book cover. I've had MailChimp for awhile now, and recently a fellow author friend reminded me about it. I would love to send out a newsletter -probably one every 1-2 months depending on what's happening. This newsletter would include news on the Magicians series, upcoming releases, first looks at book covers and teasers, etc. I have so many ideas, and I would love to make an engaging newsletter for fans and followers. It would be like an insider's club -you see what I might not post on the blog, or you'll at least see it before anyone else. You will also be able to submit requests on what you want to read about. Character insights, location choices, name selection, the publishing process... Oh, and new book ideas that aren't official!

Behind the title: Bloodline Inheritance

We are slowly approaching the year anniversary of Thicker Than Blood's release (July 31st). Before that date I aim to release the final book in the Magicians series. Today has been a relaxing day, but I also spent it figuring out once last formatting issue I ran into. Now it seems I have fixed the problem (fingers crossed), so all I'm missing is a book cover. Oh, and ebook formatting... But I'm waiting to see how the paperback format coverts in KDP. Maybe if I'm lucky it won't take much to fix it up.

I feel like I've talked a lot about writing this book, and not enough about perhaps the book itself. This is the final book in a series I've worked on since 2010. This ending is bittersweet, and I doubt I'll know what to do with myself when the journey ends. Oddly enough even with the end of the book already written out it hasn't hit me just yet that this is the end of the series. After this there won't be another, and instead I'll be forced to start something new -and in many ways that scares me.

Dyanna's story was definitely anything but easy to write. You think you know your books so well, but this is the fourth and probably asked for the most glancing back at my previous work. You find yourself searching through books, then your own messy notes, and before you know it a whole pile of papers in front of you. I started writing Bloodline Inheritance right after the release of TTB. For NaNoWriMo I thought I finished the book at little over than 54k, but shortly after that I went back through and added more in. Now the book is at 66k, and every scene feels like it always belonged their in the story. I've lost track of how many times I added something in, deleted other parts, and etc. 

The book is titled Bloodline Inheritance because this is a story about people who have lived with magic their entire lives. For the past three books we've watched them struggle and fight for their species. Originally when I finished TTB I thought I would title this book "Brother's Last War" -that instead became a chapter heading. The title switched over to Bloodline Inheritance when I realized what made Dyanna different from every magician I've worked with so far in this series. This is about a woman yearning to escape from the magic she was born with. Sometimes I think we are born with something we want to change, but certain traits -or in this case power- is inherited... not simply given. Dyanna opened up a part of the magical world I only ever considered, but this time I'm glad I was able to dig deeper.

This has been one heck of a ride. Somedays I can't believe it's May and I haven't released this yet. Despite how badly I want to release it, I also know there are some last essentials I need before the release. My hope is that it releases in late June/early July. Currently I am waiting on a mock up of the paperback and also looking at book covers. The cover reveal will be in June so long as I have the money for the actual cover -that's an essential part to the process. I'm counting down the days, just like you, but don't think I've forgotten. This is a big moment for the series; Dyanna is the one who will be finishing it out. Hope you're ready to join her...

Progress and upcoming cover

In regards to my progress I have not had the best of luck. I subscribed to Word only to realize it was a 2011 version that could not even format my book for 6x9. I am considering paying someone to format the book for me, but we will see what happens. (That does cost money, which means waiting patiently to be sure I can afford it.)
However, I do believe within the next few days I'll be finally purchasing a cover for Bloodline Inheritance. I know I've talked a lot about buying a cover on the blog, and honestly it's all I've thought about. I had the cover for TTB many months ahead of its publication date. This time around I cannot help but feel I am one step behind. The designer I plan to purchase the cover from is one I've been following for quite some time now, observing the other covers they've made. Book covers are always so difficult to use, but this designer stands out to me and could be 'the one.' If I cannot make progress with the formatting at this very moment at the very least I want the book cover to be finished.
Speaking of a book cover, when I do purchase one then I will send out emails and get together everyone who wants to be involved in the cover reveal. Fortunately this month hasn't entirely slipped away like April, and I have time to decide whether to release this month or in June. The more I look at the dates ahead the more likely I will choose June. I like making sure I have more than enough time to check that everything turns out right. Keep in mind I still need to order proofs and check how the book looks once its finally in someone's hand. Regardless of the release being this month or in June, I'm staying positive. This is after all the end of the series, and I am both eager and sad to be reaching this part of the journey with you. Numerous people have been reading this series since the days when Cursed With Power was on Inkpop. Since then the fanbase has grown, along with our characters, but I hope you'll join me in this final part of the story. Though the Magicians series might be reaching its end I am far from done with writing. I can't wait to share with you the new ideas I have later this year.
Now I realize this isn't much of an update, but I do want to be posting on the blog more. I realized the other day that I have not posted nearly as much this year -or even last-compared to my previous years. Regardless of whether I have updates or not, I will also try to include other posts that relate. (And you can hold me accountable for that.)

Formatting

Yesterday I finished the second read through my book. When I first finished Bloodline Inheritance for NaNoWriMo it was barely over 50k words in total. Now it is at 69k, and I am glad I took the time to revise it multiple times. I thought editing was the hardest part of this book, but it turns out formatting it might actually be a struggle. My last two books, Shadows and Embers and Thicker Than Blood, I have formatted on my own. I am even using my Macbook Air again, which I used originally for my two previous books. You would think after formatting two books I would have this down to a science. Or I would have at least written myself a "how to" incase I forgot, but alas I did not.
So while the book is finished, please keep in mind that I am working alone on the formatting. The only other option I would have is to pay someone to format it for me -which I have greatly consider. Tonight I have already ran into errors, so unfortunately this might take some time for me to solve. I had this problem the last two years (especially with book #3) and remember it set me back. I definitely do not want that to happen again, so I will continue to search for answers and ask for help. If you are an indie author who has formatted your own books, any help is welcome.
Once the formatting is done I want to buy a mock proof copy of the book from Lulu. Though I won't be publishing through Lulu, I use it as a way to see how my book will turn out before doing the real proof on Createspace. (It's also a way to check I haven't completely ruined the formatting.)
Again I want to apologize for any delays, but please know I am working as hard as possible on this. If you've stopped by the "books" tab on here you can see I updated the TBA date to May/June 2015.

Light editing

April seems to be flying by before my eyes, and I am staring anxiously at the calendar. Since completing revisions, I've been using ProWritingAid as an editing tool to help me go through with a fine comb. Though it does take up more time I rather do it and make sure the book is fully ready. I've been getting through the chapters pretty quickly. As much as I want to say tonight I finished it all I did not -and doubt I will. I have another eight chapters to go, so my plans are to finish with the last round of edits this week.
I do want to thank everyone for being patient. I know a lot of people are at different points in the series, so some have not started/finished Thicker Than Blood. Just keep in mind that I am one person and sadly do not have other eyes to read over this. I wish I had beta readers, but alas since this is the last book it would be difficult to find any. With my next book/series I do hope on finding a few beta readers who would be interested. It takes extra long when you only have yourself to rely on with this. Just wanted to give the update as I know it is already spring and I am approaching my deadline. Of course if need be I will release in the summer if everything is not ready in time by May.

On another note I hope to be updating my blog soon with new pictures and such. As much as I would love a new theme unfortunately it's difficult to find a free one. (And I cannot afford one that costs anything at this moment.) If you have any ideas on what you would like added to the blog please let me know, and I'll see what I can do.
