Hurricane Sandy approaching

I live in Maryland, so unfortunately we are expected to see Hurricane Sandy.  Hopefully we won't lose power, but if we do I have all my writing materials to keep me busy and occupied.

I have no idea what will happen this week, but for those of you who are also expecting to see the hurricane please stay safe.  This is a shorter post than what I usually like to write, but I'm going back to working on my upcoming book.  In the meantime, please enjoy a picture of my cat:

Writing in Red

Hi everyone!  I know it's been awhile; I tend to say that every time I come here and blog. (For me, it feels like it's been weeks, but in all honesty I have no idea)  It's been a crazy month with college, papers, tests, work, and then writing... But I keep on writing in red!  Lately my red pen has been around...

Now I realize all of this pictures revolve around chapter nine, but actually this entire chapter was written in red -which is more fitting than you may think now.  It's been a very emotional chapter to say the least, and now that it's finished I'm moving onto the next chapter.
But wait there's more...
It's no secret that there's a giveaway going on for Cursed With Power.  Make sure if you haven't entered yet to enter as soon as possible because there are only eight days left.  You can enter: here
These lovely bookmarks are just three of the several prizes you can win.  I know the large picture is blurry, but hopefully you can see the other three on the side.  These bookmarks were personalized to include the names of: Alaire (gold), Leal (blue), and Celestria (red).

That's all I have to share for now, but more of the prizes will be arriving in the mail and I'll post pictures as they come in.  Before I go, I will share some pictures I've been taking when I write outside.  This fall weather is beautiful, and better yet, the scenery is inspirational!
So if you're running into writer's block or just need some inspiration, go outside and you'd be surprised by just how welcoming it can be.  Looking back through this post, I did realize there were many pictures... But we'll just go with it and accept it.  Besides, no harm in posting pictures to add in more fun :)Coming up next: We apologize to our charactersLindsey R. Sablowski

4th year of NanoWriMo

Believe it or not, four years ago I joined NaNoWriMo and entered into a whole new world of madness I never knew excited.  And let me just say for the record that four years ago I was scared.  Literally.  50k in 30 days?  Madness, complete madness!
However, after that first year Nano actually became a real challenge for me.  Sadly I've never made it to the 50k because the novels I chose to write were ones I fell out of touch with.  This year I can guarantee you that won't happen.  It's kind of hard to give up on a novel your publisher is expecting you to write...

Now I know for a lot of you Nano is the month where you start an entirely new novel, but since my sequel will have over 50k words, I'd like to join in for the month and get it accomplished. (I have roughly 16k right now, but I will be adding another 50k to it.)
For those of you who will also be entering in this year, you can add me as a friend.  My username on Nano is 2doggys1cat.  (Such an old username; might have to see if I can change it)  Let's see if somehow I can juggle college, work, life, and Nano all in one month!  Yeah right....
I'll be back later on this week.  And remember: don't forget to enter in the Cursed With Power FALL GIVEAWAY here

CONTEST: CWP FALL GIVEAWAY

We're celebrating the coming of fall, as well as the fact that Cursed With Power has been out for over a month. (The 6th was the official month marker)  To celebrate, we're having a giveaway for you.  For all of you; each and every one of you have the chance to enter and win!  Enter here
What do you have the chance to win?  Let's take a look:
  • 3 character bookmarks -featuring Alaire, Leal, and Celestria
  • Free Paperback copy of Cursed With Power (AUTOGRAPHED)
  • Free e-book version of Cursed With Power (Winner can choose between Nook and Kindle. Kindle copy can be signed)
  • 5 signed bookmarks
  • Medium sized poster -includes author's signature
So I'm encouraging everyone to join in and enter for a chance to win any of these prizes!  You have the entire month to enter, so spread the word, gain your points, and keep on entering!  I may consider posting some pictures of the prizes later on this week -or next week depending on how crazy everything becomes.

Also, if you didn't hear, Cursed With Power was placed in the Howard County Times newspaper.  You can read about it here online if you're interested: click, click.  We made the front page!  How neat is that?!
"The thing that sets 'Cursed with Power' apart is the realism," says Donaho, who describes her role in this case as proofreading and tweaking. "[The book] has some religious aspects, some romance, and her readers can relate to the universal themes of friendship, love, trust and the death of someone close.
"At her age this is a tremendous accomplishment. ["Cursed with Power"] is the first book in a series, and she makes you want to read the next one."

Happy Friday everyone!

Contest, and prizes, and winners... OH MY!

We're starting the day off saying "AWWW" to this adorable kitty.  But where was I?
Did you hear contest?  That's right! I will be hosting a Cursed With Power FALL GIVEAWAY contest this month!  Anyone and everyone is welcome to enter, and believe me you won't want to miss out on this.  We're not only celebrating that fall is in the air, but this is also a celebration that CWP has been officially published for a month now (I'm a few days late on noticing).  Everyone has been so supportive... It's time you gain something back from it!
Now I won't reveal what the prizes are just yet, but I should have everything ready by tonight so I can post up the contest before the end of the week.  The contest will be held on Rafflecopter -not that you care; I can just post it into my blog or paste the link-so the more you participate, the more you can win!
This is the first official contest we're having.  If it goes over really well, I promise there will be more for the next contest.  Even so, don't leave disappointed because I'm sure there's a prize in there for everybody that could be of interest.

So what do you say.... Are you ready for this?

Where will October take you? *includes COVER REVEAL*

For some like J.K. Rowling, October will take her -and perhaps keep her-on the top ten bestselling books.  For others like me and you, eh... we envy what she can accomplish with another book.
But it's October at last!  The last few weeks of September were a bit crazy, and I apologize in advance for the madness.  However, the beginning of a new month is always promising, and while I can't actually think of all that much that's happening this month, there are several on my calendar.
Howard County Times newspaper will be publishing their article on Cursed With Power this Thursday!  I'll have copies for any of you who are interested; if you live outside of Maryland, perhaps I could mail you one if you're dying to have it.
We think we'll go to Boston! Well not physically, but I will be doing a Skype chat with students at Emerson college about being managing the lifestyle of a college student and author.
November is coming closer with each passing day, meaning that before any of us realize it it'll be November 17th -Hunt Valley signing!  (These events are also posted on my author website.)

But more importantly, we have a cover reveal today! I've been talking about the upcoming sequel, but in case you didn't notice, there isn't a cover for it. Unfortunately I've had New Life still floating around. So all the credit goes to Kristia Seabolt for the amazing design of this cover!  It's only a place holder for now, but... well you're not listening now, so I'll just let you look at it:

What do you think?  Remember it's NOT official, but this is what you'll see around here and there for the time being.
And before I go, did I ever share about the bookmarks?
That's the back with a quote directly from the book!  Anyways, I have some writing to catch up on before Leal starts yelling at me.  Some days his voice can be overwhelming....
I'll be back later on with more.  Who knows, maybe it's time for another character adventure.  Interested?

The Meanest Character (with Christina Leigh Pritchard)

Hi everyone today we have Christina Leigh Pritchard, author of the C I N series, with us talking about the meanest character she's ever written.  Please give her a warm welcome, and now I'll let her take it away:

First off, hello everyone and thank you, Lindsey, for having me on your blog today! I also want to give a
special shout out to L.M. Preston, author of The Pact: Retribution (available September 28th!) for putting
this mini blog tour together. It’s been wonderful learning about new books and authors!

“Who is the meanest character you’ve ever written?”

I want to say that Frank is the meanest character I’ve ever written (from the C I N Series) but I’m going
to have to go with Officer Lindsey instead. She’s a tyrannical leader in a futuristic novel (The War in the
Wall) I wrote back in the 1990’s (unreleased—but think of the Hunger Games x20!)

Officer Lindsey is fat and bitter. She’s complex but means well in her twisted way—lining up the parents
of her kidnapped children—and forcing them to watch as their parents are executed. This, of course, is
only the beginning. Officer Lindsey is so cruel, sometimes, while writing her scenes, I couldn’t stomach
what was being typed. I cried a lot and took lots of walks on the beach to clear my head!

(Now you see why I have never released this one! It’s the most violent and graphic book I’ve ever
written—and it was during my young teen years. Hormones? LOL!)

To learn more about the C I N Series and future books visit the blog dedicated to the series or check out
the debut novel C I N on Amazon.

Thanks for stopping by, Christina!  How interesting that her meanest character was named "Officer Lindsey;" can't say the two of us are alike haha.  Be sure to check out her book!

What Do You Love About Writing (with Bryna Butler)

Hey everyone!  Today we have YA Paranormal author, Bryna Butler, as a guest on the blog.  Please give a warm welcome and be sure to check out her books like Of Sun & Moon.

Thanks for having me on the blog today, Lindsey. I’d also like to give a special shout-out to L.M. Preston, author of The Pack-Retribution. L.M. is the genius behind this week’s whirlwind book tour.

I’m so excited to be on the blog today to talk about what I love about writing. Though I’ve never been a professional educator, I was once told that I must love teaching because I’m good at it. I strongly disagreed. To the dismay of my family of teachers, I don’t love teaching. What I love is the story. It just so happens that a good story can give a lesson staying power beyond any pop quiz or term paper.

Early in my career, I worked as a journalist. I think that a journalist’s heart still beats inside me. I feel it pump when I meet someone new or come across a fact I’ve never heard before. Curiosity is a beautiful thing for it leads to the story.

The job of fiction writing is even more exciting as it allows, no encourages, authors to take a fact and grow it, shape it, mold it, into something extraordinary and new. In my Midnight Guardian paranormal series, I mesh the very real, rural Midwestern U.S. with the fantasy world of Atlantis in a story woven with elements of suspense, romance, drama, and even comedy.
Cover for 'Midnight Child (Midnight Guardian Series, Book 3)'

What I love about writing? The story.

Thanks again to Lindsey for inviting me to the blog today. Tomorrow, be sure to check out her guest post on my blog, www.brynabutler.com
